The Federal Labor Party Government has announced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program during the lead up to the Federal Election held 3rd May 2025. Now they have won the election for the second term it is now expected the program will commence 1st July 2025. Whilst there is little detail about the scheme, here is what we know so far.

The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) is a NSW-based energy demand reduction scheme. From 1 November 2024 the Store and Shift method will commence for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The PDRS was established to reduce peak electricity demand and pressure on the electricity network in NSW.

FormBay platform update - Battery STCs

Please read carefully the information we currently have regarding the proposed Federal Battery STC scheme. We understand this is a highly anticipated initiative, and while full details are still pending final legislation, here’s what we know so far.

Rest assured we will continue to update you as new information becomes available.

  1. Can I start creating jobs to claim Battery STCs?

Yes. Our platform will be available tomorrow for you to create Battery STC claims and start capturing onsite data from Tuesday 6th May. While claims can't yet be submitted, you can start collecting onsite data via your Formbay app.

  1. Can I commission the battery system now?

Not yet. With the current advice from the Labor Government batteries must not be commissioned until after July 1st. If this changes, we will let you know.

  1. Can I claim STCs on panels now, and commission the battery later?

Yes. If you're doing a PV + Battery install, create two separate jobs:

  • One for PV STC (PSTC) so you can process your solar claim
  • One for Battery STC (BSTC) to capture battery data now and commission later

NOTE: You will be required to data enter two jobs and the installer will have two jobs to capture evidence in. This is a temporary measure to protect our clients from being blocked from submitting PV STC jobs while the battery scheme requirements are finalised by the relevant authorities.

  1. Can I claim both Battery STCs and PRCs in NSW?

This is not confirmed by the NSW Government at the time of this message. The NSW Government must update the rules to allow both incentives to be claimed. We hope to have an update on this soon.

What Does All This Mean For Me?

  • You can start creating Battery STC eligible jobs in Formbay from Tuesday 6th May.
  • Formbay will only allow PV and Battery STC applications to be created as two separate forms as an interim measure while the policy is confirmed.
  • Battery STC eligible jobs must remain "In progress" (not commissioned) until after July 1st at this stage. You will not be able to submit these jobs.
  • Combined PV + Battery jobs will be available once further clarification is available from the Government.

If you have further questions, we encourage you to wait until the legislation is finalised – we’ll notify you as soon as more information becomes available to us
